PMS colours can be used as stand-alone or as an addition to CMYK and Hexachrome to enable the reproduction of over one thousand extra colours not achievable by the application of CMYK and Hexachrome inks alone. PMS colours are produced using ink mixing formulas documented and controlled by the Pantone Matching System. The system is supported by a global PANTONE Colour Communication Network, comprised of companies licensed by Pantone, Inc. to produce and distribute PANTONE Colour Products and services. Printing Inks in PANTONE Colours are available worldwide from PANTONE licensed Printing Ink Manufacturers. PMS inks can be ordered premixed to match the colour reference requested or mixed in-house by using 14 PANTONE Basic Colours. Several hundred Metallic Colours can also be achieved by mixing in-house however they require the addition of Basic Metalic Colours besides the 14 PANTONE Basic Colours and more accurate results are achieved if purchased premixed.
